SHATTER BRAIN “Pitchfork Justice”

Share This:

Watch out Aussie heavy music scene there is a new kid on the block and they want to play rough… rough and heavy in the good sense of course. Formed in Adelaide in 2018 Shatter Brain have just delivered an absolute killer debut album in the form of Pitchfork Justice.

From start to finish this album seems more like a band celebrating their tenth anniversary rather than delivering their debut album. While the tracks sound fresh and new there is a maturity and tightness around their sound. A track like “Choosing Beggars” sounds so tight it could have easily been delivered by a bad 20 years in the game while opening track “Talk In Fear” is so fresh and raw it heralds in something very exciting for the Australian heavy music scene.

What really sets Shatter Brain apart from the rest of the pack though is their brilliant sound. Tracks like “Lorem Ipsum” reveal vocalist Tom Santamaria to be one of the finest heavy vocalists in Australia while also showing the crazy skills of guitarist Matt Disisto whose brilliance is on show throughout the album – especially on “Life Ephemeral” which he completely owns.

Also impressive is the fact that Shatter Brain are a band who are willing to experiment with their sound throughout the album. “Fencesitter” and “Noble Savagery” are brutal and in your face, “Death Goes On” delivers some fast paced intensity while the mix up of vocals on “Silent Screams” delivers a haunting sound that chills you straight to the bone.

Pitchfork Justice is a brutal debut album from a band that is destined for greatness. Shatter Brain is the breath of fresh air that we needed during our Covid lockdown.
