Seeking Sanctuary with MIRRORS

Listen to the interview below or on Spotify and iTunes Podcast:

“It is and it also isn’t”, teased Mirrors bass player Jake Mackin when asked if lead single ‘Cold Sanctuary’ is indicative of the remainder of the upcoming E,P of the same name. “I would say it is probably the most melodic song that we’ve got on the E.P. That was what we wanted to start off with because the last track we released before this was ‘Circus’ and that is a song that’s full of massive choruses and whatnot and then this is almost like another step or lead on from that. As far as the rest of the E.P goes… I don’t wanna give too much away but it gets a lot more riffy but there’s still the nice fat choruses in there. The next track that’s coming out there’s nothing nice about it whatsoever. It’s a lot more brutal”.

According to those in the know, Cold Sanctuary is Mirrors heaviest collection of songs to date, with Mackin conceding they know what they are talking about.

“We all love a bit of heavy shit”, he laughed. “I dunno mate, that’s just what comes out. What comes out comes out when you are writing music. Full credit to Tyson (Taifer, guitars) and Patty (Goodman, vocals) who are the main guys that write the music fundamentally and obviously myself and the drummer come in later on with bits and pieces but it’s based on the way Tyson and Patty are feeling at the time they are writing. It’s purely based on feelings”.

In the full interview, Jake discusses the single and the E.P, delves deeper into the lyrical themes, outlines the differences between this E.P and debut E.P Fools Paradise, fitting into the music scene, the supportive nature of people within the industry, their upcoming tour and more.
