The revolution that view on demand platform Stan has started with Australian television and movies continues with brand new film The Second. Starring Australian acting legends such as Rachael Blake (Gods Of Egypt, Sleeping Beauty), Vince Colosimo (Chopper, Daybreakers), Susie Porter (Better Than Sex, Two Hands) and Martin Sacks (Wentworth, Blue Heelers) this thriller is a reminder of just how good Australian cinema can be.
HEAVY Mag recently caught up with Rachael Blake and Vince Colosimo in Melbourne and it was easy to see that both were very excited to talk about the project.
“I loved the script,” says Blake when I ask her what attracted her to her role. “I just loved the fact that it was a small cast and that there was this amazing story. There was this great journey and I loved the fact that the central characters were in a complex female relationship. You very rarely see female protagonists in these kinds of films so to have that and have a tight threesome… or should I say a three-handed film was great.”
“That is what so exceptional about it,” says Colosimo jumping in. “The fact that it was intimate, a small group of characters – mainly just the three of us – in a place that is in the middle of nowhere, so you are stuck out there, and you have to get this done when you are in each other’s faces for three or four weeks… fifteen hours a day… and you never get back to the real world. You start this film, you get to the middle, you get to the meat of this film, then you complete it before you get back to your real life and that is part of what attracted me, and obviously knowing who the other actors where who were going to be involved… that was big. I also liked the excitement that the creative team had for this project because when somebody nurtures their baby so well and want it so badly you know there is something special about it and I felt that… and I think it has come to the fore now with they went about it.”
