Second Coming of FIFTH ANGEL

Share This:

“There was just a little bit of time between our second album and this album”, smiled Ken Mary, drummer for Fifth Angel who started life as a band in 1983. “I think it was 29 years (laughs). A lot of people said why so much time between but we really didn’t wanna do anything that was going to tarnish our legacies because the first two albums were considered classics – especially in Europe. We just wanted to make sure that we did an album that was as hard as we felt it needed to be and it took us some time and there was a lot of things that happened in between. We had some great singers that we worked with but for whatever reason when we recorded it just didn’t sound like Fifth Angel and that was the big thing for us. If we wanted to do an album we had to do two things. A, it has to sound like Fifth Angel and B, we have to love every song on there because the bar was set so high on the first two”.

In the full interview Ken discusses the album in more detail, sheds light on the story behind the title, The Third Secret, the grunge movement that brought a premature end to Fifth Angel in 1990, the path that led to the resurgence of the band, their feelings towards music and the music world when they disbanded, whether the band had thoughts of altering their sound to reflect the almost thirty years between albums, the challenges they faced as a band in coming back and more.

Battling a cold and sore throat, Kris somehow managed to start the conversation by asking about the new album…
