Today, Melbourne synth-driven post-punk outfit screensaver have shared the single and video for Drainer, the second release lifted from their forthcoming album Decent Shapes out Friday 20 October via Poison City/Upset the Rhythm.
To coincide with the single drop, the band has also announced a run of national tour dates, taking the new album to post-punk quarters across the country.
A fierce follow-on from the album’s introductory single The Guilt and a track that showcases screensaver’s musical dexterity in the synth-punk landscape, Drainer is a pummelling punk number punctuated by alarming synths, abrupt guitars, and a relentless tempo, with a near-hypnotic echo of “drainer” permeating through the chorus.
The track itself serves as an ode to the emotional vampires in your life – the ones who suck your emotional energy, who you know you need to cut ties with but never do, and so the cycle continues.
Accompanying the track is the low-fi visualiser for Drainer, shot on camcorder by fellow musician, producer, and videographer Grace Stevenson (Rebel Yell/100%) in inner-north Melbourne.
