SARAH MCLEOD Talks The Resurrection Of THE SUPERJESUS

Share This:

It is hard to believe that it is twenty years ago since of Australia’s best rock albums was released. Way back in 1998 The Superjesus burst onto the scene with Sumo and for the next decade continued to release some of the best Aussie rock of all time. Well now The Superjesus are back – 2018 saw the band head out onto the road again, release an anniversary edition of Sumo and are now gearing up to play one of the best looking festivals of this summer Under The Southern Stars alongside the likes of Hoodoo Gurus, Eskimo Joe and British India.

What HEAVY Mag wasn’t expecting was the big news that Sarah McLeod told us when we sat down to have a chat with her – the new solid line-up of The Superjesus has got the creativity flowing and we can likely expect some new material sooner rather than later.

“So far it has been fate that has brought us together,” says McLeod as we talk about what has sparked The Superjesus coming together outside of the anniversary tour and Under The Southern Skies. “We were apart because our drummer went to live in Seattle, opened up a bar and had babies so we just stopped playing. Then he came back and we were like ‘wow let’s play again’ but then he went back to Seattle and we stopped again. Then when it got to the twentieth anniversary we emailed him and asked ‘do you want to come back and do this thing with us?’ and he wrote back and said ‘can’t come back the bar is too busy’ so we went and found another drummer and now suddenly we have this band that has a really solid line-up and the sound is really tight, nobody is going anywhere so it is so much easier having everybody in the one place. I feel like there is nothing stopping us, we are out of excuses for why we wouldn’t just continue.”

“I think so yeah,” she says when I ask whether that could mean that we will see another Superjesus album. “We have been doing a bit of jamming on the road and talking about what we could do and what we would sound like. We haven’t written anything together yet but we are definitely open to it and we have a little bit of time after Under The Southern Skies where we would like to get into a studio and see what happens with the new line-up.”
