RINRIN: The Nut House

Year Of The Rat Records

With The Nut House, Filipino-born, Aussie-based firestarter RinRin delivers a wildly ambitious debut album that’s equal parts chaos, catharsis, and cosmic storytelling. If you thought her Angels EP was a wild ride, buckle the hell up, this is a full blown detour through the multiverse of her own mind.

Each track on The Nut House introduces us to a different version of Rin – fractured reflections of her psyche twisted by a mysterious substance known as Rinnite. It’s conceptual, sure, but far from pretentious. This isn’t just world building for the sake of lore – it’s a raw, honest depiction of inner turmoil, obsession, rage, and the occasional corn dog.

Musically, RinRin hits the sweet spot between glitchy metal, neon drenched pop punk and full throttle hyper-pop-metalcore. Think BABYMETAL jamming with Poppy after a night out with Bring Me The Horizon, but with her own distinctively Filipino- Australian bite. There’s humour, horror, heartbreak, and more hooks than a BCF sale rack.

Tracks like Killher and Built Diff are explosive openers, flexing brash riffs and tongue in cheek ferocity. Gunmetal Black leans darker, digging into self-doubt with cinematic flair, while CORNDOG! is pure unhinged brilliance – equal parts meme, breakdown and emotional release.

RinRin doesn’t shy away from emotional rawness either – sad emoji closes the album with a stripped back vulnerability that hits like a sledgehammer to the heart, proving she can go as soft and sincere as she can savage.

Her journey from local prodigy to supporting acts like RedHook, The Plot In You, and joining Walk Off The Earth on a six-city arena tour in China is impressive in itself. But The Nut House makes one thing clear – RinRin isn’t just keeping up. She’s carving out her own twisted universe and daring us to follow her in.

Verdict – A bold, bizarre and brilliant debut from one of Australia’s most genre defying rising stars.
For fans of: BABYMETAL, Poppy, BMTH, losing your mind with style.
