Heavy, vicious and just downright massive, Juggernaut is a fitting title for the debut album from Adelaide thrashers Alkira. These are the kind of tunes conservative Christians are talking about when they refer to metal as “Devil music”; there’s enough brutality here to make Quentin Tarantino shed a tear.

Unfortunately, however, there’s no progression past that initial point of earth-shattering heaviness. Mint production and stellar growls make this a supple debut, but there’s not much to look forward to in terms of originality. That said, it’s hard not to suggest you at least give these blokes a try; at the very least, this is a great album to have blasting in the background as you smash down a few beers.
