PUNGENT STENCH ‘Smut Kingdom’

Share This:

If someone were to tell you that Pungent Stench had a new album after their split in 2007 and all the turmoil faced regarding legal issues, you would probably find it hard to believe, but crazier things have happened like the return of ABBA.
Death metal from Vienna brings music to the ears, and it’s great to hear unreleased tracks from our beloved smut lords who welcome all to the “Smut Kingdom.”

What all started as a brief conversation from the drummer, Alex Wank aka Mr Stench and fellow vocalist and guitarist Martin Schirenc aka El Cochino, lead to gaining rights of previous albums and compiling the lost recordings of 2006 and 2007 to a new home with the Dissonance label. After a ten year gap, the recordings were mastered by John Mitchell at Outhouse Studios in 2017.

The album boasts guest appearances from Dr Heathen Scum (The Mentors), Kam Lee (Mantas, Massacre) and LG Petrov (Entombed).

Heads get rolling to “Aztec Holiday” which comes across as a stoner rock gem with that groovy riff and inspirational guitar solo. “Devil’s Work” is a highlight with it’s in your face riff and rapid speed drums. Throw in some trendy guitar leads, bellowing bass and what do you know even though this music was recorded in 2007, there is a modern sound for all the trendy kids to bang their melons along to.

Brute” is sure to become a hit with that stomping riff that will get you bouncing to the ceiling. The retro sound creates a horror punk (psychobilly) feel to it, and the ghostly shrieks would make Casper feel at home. Closest to what would be the title-track is “King of Smut” with those charming lyrics for the kiddies. Whether it be thrashing or grooving Pungent Stench are your go-to band.

“Suicide Bombshell” shows the distinct voice of Dr Heathen Scum with the fun track on display mixing up the bizarre range of sounds blasting through your speakers. “Opus Dei” on the other hand, with more variety then at a brothel showcases sludge metal madness. The aptly-titled “I Require Death Sentence” welcomes endless guitar solos and funky bass lines. The fun doesn’t stop here as the tracks are consistent with no filler in sight. From the all-out thrash. ringing guitar solos and breakdowns of “Me Gonzo” to the final offering, “Planet Of The Dead.”

Enjoy the Stench as this is what the world need’s right now! \m/
