PRISON ‘Come, Annihilation’

Share This:

Remember that time when punk had something to say. That time when we used to sit around and listen to real punk on cassettes, when the tracks often sat around the one minute mark in duration and the band members weren’t on television dressed in bling and advertising fast food on the TV?

Well I am happy to say that Seattle based outfit Prison are bringing back those with a vengeance. So much so that as I sit and listen to their new album ‘Come, Annihilation’ I feel like I am doing it a disservice by listening to it on a laptop instead of on an old cassette player.

If you are an old school punk fan that this is an album that you will fall in love with straight away. Everything is there that should be from a raw, brashness that shows through on a track like ‘Into The Pit’ through to jarring riffs and great thought provoking lyrics that you find on something like ‘Who Live Who Dies Who Cares.’

Tracks like ‘I Welcome Death’ are a reminder of past greats like Suicidal Tendencies while ‘I Do Not Value Life’ and ‘We Live In Filth’ are short, to the point and sound like they should be being listened to in a crowded, sweaty live venue that only those into the underground know about. If there is any doubt on Prison’s ability it is quickly swept away with ‘The Smell Of Flesh’ a track that not only showcases the vocals of Zack but also proves that this is a band that should be on everyone’s play list.

‘Come, Annihilation’ is brash, it is to the point like a stake through the heart, but more importantly it is bringing back a style of punk music that we have all missed. Welcome back old friend!!!
