Generations is a song from Brisbane rock machine Valvetrain, born out of tragedy, but ultimately given life through hope.
Written by Mark Godfrey after the passing of his Father, the song invokes the circle of life, from the time we enter this Earth until the time we leave it. By harnessing the joy created from the dawn of life and offsetting it with the emptiness we feel as life fades, Godfrey moulded Generations into a song of positivity rather than the pain from which it was created, handing it over to the rest of the band who all sprinkled their DNA through the embers to craft a personal, yet accessible rock tune for the ages.
Continuing with the theme of family, Godfrey suggested to his son Luke – who is also in a band – that they join forces on Generations, and the result was so powerful that what started as a one-off collaboration has now become a permanent fixture, with Luke joining Valvetrain to work on some new material.
Generations sees old school metal combine with a more modern edge that sets Valvetrain up for an exciting future. Generations is taken from the band’s new album, Generations, which is also released today.
