Gold Coast outfit Kobrakai have courted controversy and powerful subject matter with the release of their latest song “Vessels”.

The song is essentially written about the mysticism of cults… what are they, how they came to be and why certain people are attracted to them.

Is it the leader or the cause?

Taking inspiration from the events of the Branch Davidian siege in Waco, Texas in 1993, the release date for “Vessels” also co-insides with the 28th anniversary of the end of that infamous siege.

With lyrics written from two differing viewpoints – the verses from a disciple, or follower, and the chorus said by the leader himself (on this occasion David Koresh) – “Vessels” is a timely indictment on the fanaticism inherent in people and in particular their reliance on modern technology and creating or finding their own tribe of like-minded followers.

The accompanying video clip reflects this situation and utilizes imagery from other cults, including the Manson Family and the Jonestown Massacre, as well as the more recent depiction of the storming of the White House.

“Vessels” is a powerful and contentious song that begs the question – how far would you go and who would you follow for a cause you believe in?
