In the space between reality and abstraction stands Druid, bold and fresh, proudly wielding their latest single Chokehold and its companion music video out Friday, September 27.
To those new to the cult of Druid, this 6-piece powerhouse has made waves in Melbourne’s metalcore scene, with their fiery blend of scream vocals and trap flow. Their 90s nu-metal vibes and industrial hardcore sound has captivated the likes of Triple J, Hysteria magazine, Triple M, Spotify curation, and others, and has led them to perform in Slipknot’s Knotfest and the digital music festival Pulse Of The Maggots.
Chokehold is a chaotic, erotic, nu-metal trip of a song, only exacerbated by the music video shot by Martin Wood. The pole-dancing men and women in the music video and the liminal space it takes place in is a strange and intimate experience, creating an environment that feels like it could be anywhere or nowhere. The video cuts between the writhing bodies of the dancers and the band’s performance illuminated by a spotlight, giving the video an intimate atmosphere that borders on claustrophobic.
The song itself plays off this, a meld of metal of all kinds, familiar and twisted. Though containing a varied display of passionate song vocals, incredible screams, and poetic rap, the sheer intensity of this song never waver, delivering punch after punch of hardcore vibes and leaving the head spinning.
Roll with the punches with Druid’s new single Chokehold and music video when they drop on Friday, September 27. In the meantime, check out the premiere a day early below.
