Premiere: BLACK TRILLIUM “Banished”

Share This:

Black Trillium is a death/doom metal collaboration between Simon Skipper (guitar, vocals) and Zachary Carlsson (vocals, bass), formed from their mutual interest in the brooding aesthetics and darkest aspects of the metal genre.

Black Trillium’s music explores themes of alienation, inner turmoil, and the impact of nature on the individual.

Today HEAVY Magazine premieres their new song and video clip “Banished” (featuring Tim Charles of Ne Obliviscaris) from their upcoming studio album The Fatal Shore, due for release April 29.

“Banished” explores the effects of being forced to leave your home and realising everyone you trusted has turned their backs on you to uphold the status quo. The story was inspired by their research into Australian convict history and drawing from personal experience.

“Banished” is taken from Black Trillium’s concept album title, The Fatal Score, which will be available later in the year. The record is about the journey of a convict to colonial Australia in the early 1800s. Each song documents the protagonist’s thoughts as their life gets progressively worse and explores further emotions and scenarios inspired by the record’s central concept. While focused on the protagonist’s journey in colonial times, the lyrics can also relate to modern experiences, connecting the past with the present.

Founded in Sydney, Australia in 2010, the duo have worked together primarily as a studio project but have performed several select shows throughout the country, sharing stages with the likes of Inverloch, The Eternal, Rise Of Avernus and many more.

After the release of their 2012 debut EP The Locked Woods, Black Trillium are preparing to release their first full-length album this year. The Fatal Shore will further expand upon the project’s sound and thematic scope, incorporating a broader range of musical ideas and concepts.
