Possessor
Stay Dead EP
Medusa Crush
Release Date: Out Now
Review by Derek J. Huckel
It’s highly likely you’ve not heard of Possessor but Stay Dead is an EP worthy of your time. It really rips! The fuzzed out metal goodness has a distinct seventies flavour and is brought to you by a trio of Londonites who have their pedals and guitar knobs jammed at eleven.
Listening to this glorious four track, evokes olde horror movies of the 40’s (like The Wolfman), you can feel the clouds of fog with the amount of sludge Possessor stuff into these tunes. Some boogie too. Think a mix of Black Sabbath, Bolt Thrower, Electric Wizard, and a smidge of The Accused and you might just come close to imagining the sound of Possessor.
The lyrics of the songs here are pure Goth and titles too, with names such as Lucifer Stay Dead, Night of Venom, and Cobwebs. They are a great fit, perfectly matching the sound.
Stay Dead is their fourth release since the 2013 inception of this band in what seems a rather rapidly growing discography. And if this is an indication, then I’m excited to see what’s next and will definitely check out the back catalogue of Possessor.
