Phil Anselmo Apologizes For White Power Outburst

Share This:

Former Pantera frontman Phil Anselmo, has publically apologized after his shocking outburst on stage last week at Dimebash. He was heard clearly to yell the words ‘White Power’ repeatedly and offered a Nazi-style salute to the crowd.

Several musicians in the HEAVY scene have come out and condemned the actions of Anselmo, and rightfully so. It has no place in our scene or any regular functioning society. Robb Flynn (Machine Head) was the first to criticize Anselmo citing his behavior as “fucking wrong.”

Anselmo initially refused to apologize, stating that it was an in-joke about drinking white wine back stage. But following the severe backlash, he has admitted that he’s deserved the scrutiny of the public after his outburst. Anselmo stated that he is “1000 percent apologetic to anyone that took offence.” Read the full transcript below or watch the video and make your own mind up.

“Philip H. Anselmo here, and I’m here to, basically, respond to all the heat I’ve been getting that I deserve completely. I was at the Dimebash and it was extremely late at night and there was heavy-duty talk between myself and those who love Dime. And heavy emotions were flowing, jokes were made backstage that transpired upon the stage, and it was ugly, it was uncalled for. And anyone who knows me and my true nature knows that I don’t believe in any of that; I don’t wanna be part of any group. I’m an individual…”

“I am a thousand percent apologetic to anyone that took offense to what I said, because you should have taken offense to what I said. And I am so sorry, and I hope you just… Man, give me another chance to… Just give me another chance. I love all of you. And anyone who’s met me, anyone who knows me knows that I love all of you. Bless you.”
