Peering Into The Distance With TWISTED HORIZON

Share This:

After starting his career under the more straightforward name of Jack G McDonald, the Albury based musician earlier this year changed it to Twisted Horizon, adding a sense of wonderment to the name and also mixing it up a little more musically.

Keeping the guitar-driven structure from previous work, McDonald also experiments with glam metal, punk, blues and classic rock over the course of Road To Revival, giving the body of work a uniquely historical element while still keeping things fresh and modern.

Following the release of his debut album late last month, McDonald earlier this week sat down with HEAVY to discuss the release and new venture.

“Road To Revival is a bit of, I guess you could say it’s a musical journal of my last few years,” he began. “The way that I often describe it is the good, the bad, and the ugly because over the last few years obviously we’ve been living in a pretty crazy time with everything that has gone on over the last few years. Whether it be the pandemic, whether it be what’s going on over in Ukraine and all the rest of it. Lyrically, it’s my point of view of everything going on. It’s myself finding myself and just a few other things that I’ve encountered over the years. Musically… I don’t like putting things in specific genres because I feel genre scares a lot of people off from listening to certain things. It’s a mixed celebration of all kinds of rock music that we’ve experienced, with some songs almost going into that metalcore realm and some songs even right back to the 70s when we had ZZ Top pumping away on the guitars. I basically just wanted it to be a rock album of my idea of rock music and everything that’s influenced me.”

In the full interview, Jack talks more about the songs on Road To Revival, capturing the essence of a wide range of music, the guitar driven nature of the album, the single March Of The Dogs and why it was chosen, the name change from Jack G McDonald to Twisted Horizon, heading out on the road and more.
