It was Brisneylsnd’s very own Osaka Punch who gate crashed the stage in this weeks Cheeky Midweeky at Mo’s Desert Clubhouse, amping it up as support act for them were RVLR, also creatures from the lands of Bris’.
The word had reached the far corners of the Desert’s radius, with some solid crowd numbers.
The Punch have created a commendable following for themselves over the years and rightly so. They’re fun to watch t and their music has a groove/funk/metal feel that is palatable.
Frontman Jack Venables’ moves were fire and in tradition opened up their set punishing the ears of the good people with a few verses of Never Gonna Give You Up before charging into their first track Tiffany
These guys were uncool well before uncool was cool . Donned in his black glitter ball dinner jacket, Venables worked the media pit posing for us like we were only ones in the room. Smooth as brother, smooth as. The band was on point sounding clean, it was a tidy set overall.
The rest of the band Reggie (bass) Chrispy (guitar) and Blair on drums provided a fitting back drop for Venables. These guys are like a living canvas playing out a scene in their own soap opera where funk metal got lit on shots of 90s pop punk groove washed down with Mitsubishi chasers.
I highly recommend any lover of metal and funk to go check them out next time they’re in town. You won’t regret it and if you’re proper lucky Jacko might even gyrate just for you !
