Opium Eater Set To Release New Album

Share This:

Babelsteps’, the first single from Opium Eater’s new album ‘Ennui’, is out now.

In the words of Under The Radar, the track “passes through many sonic vistas, moving from serene atmospherics through to intense sludgeiness over its nine-minute course, making it a captivating listen.”

Wellington’s Opium Eater play progressive music in the truest sense of the word.

Across the 55 minutes of their new album ‘Ennui’, the four-piece draw listeners in with a unique and ever-shifting blend of prog, post-rock, doom, drone and psychedelia. At various points I am reminded of the raw intensity of early Mastodon, the progressive stoner jams of Elder, the dynamics of COG, and Intronaut’s latest work.

To utilise such a broad palette is ambitious, but it’s not a challenge that Opium Eater shy away from.

In recent years the band has shared the stage with Between The Buried And Me, Windhand, Weedeater, Cough and Conan. From the scope and power of ‘Ennui’, it’s not hard to see why they’ve accompanied so many big names.

This is a sonic journey that fans of Elder, Intronaut, Mastodon and Neurosis are sure to enjoy.

Opium Eater’s ‘Ennui‘ sees release on 12 October on Art As Catharsis.

The first single ‘Babelsteps‘ is out now.
