On The Horizon With OUR MIRAGE

Share This:

It seems like it is the week to get to know new German bands. First off we introduced all our readers to Annisokay now it is time to get to know another exciting German metalcore band – Our Mirage. These guys exploded onto the scene in their homeland when their debut single ‘Nightfall’ managed 200,000 views in two weeks. Now four singles into their career that figure stands at over three million, while their debut album Lfieline is now one of the most eagerly anticipated albums in Europe.

Before the release of the album HEAVY Mag sat down with Our Mirage’s frontman Timo Bonner to learn all there is to know about Our Mirage.

“At first I was planning on doing a solo project,” says Bonner as we talk about the creation of Our Mirage. “And I started writing our first single ‘Nightfall’ at this point and after the song was finished I showed it to some friends and everybody was like ‘dude you need a band for that’ and I was thinking about having a band as a solo artist but then I just didn’t want to be the guy who is in the spotlight all the time so I just asked some friends to start a new band. So we started the band with ‘Nightfall’ and then things started to grow really fast after that and now we are here.”

The first thing that hits you while listening to Lifeline is how personal the lyrics are as the tracks delve into some touching topics including depression and I ask Bonner what it was like recording tracks so personal to him. “As you said the songs are very personal to me,” he says. “In one song, ‘Revival’, I was singing about my childhood and my depression I had when I was very young, and then also the other songs look at how I suffered from depression but I made it out of there and now I am a very positive person and it was sometimes kind of hard to put that down because I was thinking about what I felt back then. Actually one of the songs that is the hardest song for me to sing live is about one of the best friends who was about to die when I wrote that song and by now he is dead and the song ‘Believe’ is about me admitting that  my friend is going to die and there is no way out. It is always hard to perform that song and it was hard to record that song.”

Lifeline is out now through Arising Empire.
