Niji issues cease and desist against Australian production of Ronnie James Dio musical

The Legend of Dio: A Metal Musical is due to make one appearance only at Melbourne’s The Corner Hotel but it seems not everyone is happy. Niji Entertainment Group has taken to Ronnie James Dio’s Facebook page to express their concern.

The musical is based around Dio’s music, lyrics and imagery and features tracks from Dio, Black Sabbath , Rainbow and Heaven & Hell. The musical will feature Melbourne metal band, Barbariön, with the band’s frontman playing the part of Satan.

With just over a month until it hits the Corner Hotel, Niji Entertainment Group has issued the following statement.

Dear Fans,

We want to set the record straight! Niji Productions has nothing to do with “The Legend of Dio: A Metal Musical” that has been advertised. This came as a shock to us as it did to most of you too. Our legal team has sent a cease and desist to the company in Australia that is infringing on the copyright of Ronnie James Dio’s songs, likeness and trademarked logo.

Thank you!

Niji Entertainment Group

But it seems not all Dio fans agree with the above sentiment, with the majority of Facebook comments disagreeing with the above legal action. If the event goes ahead you’ll be able to see it on 6th March at The Corner Hotel in Melbourne.
