NICOLAS CAGE FIGHTER Take Aim At Their Demons

Ballarat metal crusaders Nicolas Cage Fighter recently released the single “Dead Ends” from next years EP Cast You Out.

While the whole EP collectively deals with mental health and associated issues, each track on the album deals with separate issues and the struggles that go with them.

Vocalist Nick Moriarty sat down with HEAVY for a brutally honest and forthright look at the single and the EP.

“The Whole EP itself is based on a progression of living with mental health problems of any kind of degree,” he affirmed, “but mainly with depression and anxiety and anger issues and the like. “Dead Ends” is the point in the EP where you come to realise that there isn’t really much of a way out from these kinds of problems unless you forcibly make those changes yourself and find a way out of it.”

Musically, “Dead Ends” is what you would expect from Nicolas Cage Fighter, with Moriarty admitting the song didn’t fall into place like others have.

“It was a little bit of a weird one,” he nodded. “We wanted it to be heavier but still have a groove and catchiness to it. When going into the writing – from the vocals side of things at least for myself – I wasn’t really sure what direction to take. It sat on the drawing board for a while because Justin writes some really interesting riffs that can be difficult to write to, but we wanted something heavy with a dark lyrical theme but also an uplifting musical feel to it.”

In the full interview, Nick talks more about the songs that make up Cast You Out, steps you can take to deal with any of the issues outlined on the EP, the band members individual struggles with these problems, surviving COVID, the origin of the band name and more.
