North Queensland’s Only Ghosts Remain are living proof that raw talent, ambition and honesty can still prevail in the ailing music industry. After an extended hiatus from performing, Barnes, Bell, Kirchner and Robinson decided it was time to bring something different to the alternate metal genre. Only Ghosts Remain is an assimilation of each of the four’s musical backgrounds and inspirations, combined to create a truly unique sound that grabs your attention, grips you, and leaves you wanting more. With nods to Tool, Grinspoon, Halestorm and Parkway Drive, they are masters at melding hard and heavy beats and riffs with hook filled melodies.
Composed of Lauren Barnes (vocals), Aaron Bell (guitar) Cedric Kirchner (bass) and Jack Robinson (drums) the band found themselves in sync from their first jam session together. The writing process incorporates each member’s ideas and writing styles with all four having input into where they take each song. Robinsons’ machinery-like percussion is interwoven with Bell and Kirchner’s intense and intricate guitar lines, then layered with Barnes’ vocals which lay somewhere between ethereal plea, strong rock and gritty blues. With plans to record in the near future, this band not only knows where they are going but have a rock-solid history as performers, that put them where they are today.
