Out Now

Muzzlemouth came to us as a 3-piece indie rock band from the Northern Rivers NSW. With a total of 79 (and counting) followers on Instagram they are hoping that this review will push them over the illustrious 80 mark. Hell, this might even get ‘em a gig outside of the local retirement village.

As I sit down for my afternoon game of bingo, I decide to give their songs a play. Sorry gents, this ain’t the radio, but who the fuck listens to that in this day and age anyway. Oh, that’s right, granny down at the retirement village. You guys really need to move on from that place.

Opening track Olympus Mons kicks off as a rocking good time, so rocking I can hear the shed rattling through heavily reverberated drums. Let’s not piss in the wind here, this is shed rock, the kind of tunes you would hear down at the local MC’s yearly cricket match. You won’t hear it on Triple M anytime soon, because it’s probably too rock for that!

Let it Go brings back the riff with an 80s So-Cal surf rock feel to it. Maybe these guys spend their weekends across the highway at Byron Bay, in between visits to Nimbin. I’m not saying they sound a little baked, but this is the kind of tune you’d hear as a soundtrack for a bunch of stoned hippies heading down to the beach for an afternoon bon fire rendezvous.

The third track Minky’s kicks off with another rocking riff. It’s so rocking the band gets a little excited and the tempo accelerates just a touch. This one has a little more of a punk flavour to it than the previous two tracks. A quick bass interlude leads into some lead guitar fuckery while the rest of the band rocks out in excitement.

3-minutes, and that song’s done. 3 songs, and this EP is done. Good times, but it could have lasted a little longer.

And yes, that’s what she said!
