Metalcore Rules (And Sells!)

The ARIA album charts for the week ending April 8 have just been released, and it’s a big week for metal (or metalcore to be specific) sales in Australia .

Following on from their recent appearance at Soundwave, British metalcore outfit Bring Me The Horizon have stormed to the top of the charts, grabbing the #1 spot in the first week of release of their 4th album Sempiternal.  This makes it the second consecutive Bring Me The Horizon album to debut at #1, following on from the success of 2010’s ‘There Is A Hell…’

Also breaking into the top 10 on debut is the new Killswitch Engage album, hitting #6 with ‘Disarm The Descent’.  The new album from the US metalcore veterans marks the return of original vocalist Jesse Leach, who departed the band after their 2002 album Alive Or Just Breathing.

And although this week sees them dropping significantly, local metalcore band Northlane smashed into the charts last week at #3 with their second album Singularity, a huge result for them.

The fact that all three of these bands were a part of the recent Soundwave Festival underlines what a critical part of the local industry the festival has become.  All that needs to happen now is to find a way to have Soundwave every month…
