Share This:

With the countdown to Necrosonic Festival at The Mansfield Tavern in Brisbane on August 31 now on, HEAVY thought it appropriate to introduce you to the bands playing on the day, two at a time, starting from today until the day of the show.

Conjured by one of the dark architects behind the legendary Overcranked, Inferno and Dead of Winter Festivals, Necrosonic heralds a day filled with unrelenting brutality and the heaviest, most sinister sounds that the underworld has to offer, some even returning from the dead for the ritual.

Hosting 30 bands across three stages over 12 hours, Necrosonic Festival promises to satiate even the heaviest of hungers. Today, we introduce you to Awful Noise and Mountain Wizard Death Cult.

AWFUL NOISE

Awful Noise have been active since 2017, recording a handful of digital and physical releases and playing a plethora of shows to eager crowds all around Australia. The band have recently regrouped as a 4 piece band with their debut album A Peaceful Death With Pretty Flowers, released on CD, tape & digital streaming through Grindhead Records.

Awful Noise played their album launch show as the head opening act for Wormrot & Napalm Death to 500+ punters.

MOUNTAIN WIZARD DEATH CULT

However audiences try to define Sydney’s Mountain Wizard Death Cult, there’s no denying the impact their genre-bending brand of bone-crushing & hypnotising metal has in the flesh and on record. Emerging from the darkness, MWDC return in with a statement on what’s to come in the form of post metal epic ORBITAL taken from their debut full length LIMINAL.

With their foundations solidified in the underground heavy community, 2022 saw the band initiate minds and souls across the country, with standout appearances at Festivals such as Blacken, Froth & Fury and even BIGSOUND, along with a myriad of headline dates in support of their previous stream of consciousness – INITIATION – showcasing the release of their debut clip and received airplay on Triple J’s The Racket.

Band guitarist Chris Chaplin shared his thoughts on the track – “ORBITAL is a truly organic representation of what Mountain Wizard Death Cult is and the connection the four of us share in the music we create. A reflection of the claustrophobic void we explore on our record LIMINAL. Perhaps more than anything else on the record, this song seemed to just pour out of us, with the majority being captured in a single live session- I feel like the presence in the room is really felt on the recording and is the closest thing to the mesmerising effect we create live”

MWDC have landed support slots for heavyweights such as HEXIS and King Parrot and deliver a sonically crushing experience like none other as a band to watch in the years ahead.
