Brisbane-based metal/hardcore stalwarts Massic have announced the release date of their long-anticipated sophomore album Cognisant for May 13.
The result of more than two years of effort that saw the band navigate the pressures of the global pandemic and internal health issues, Cognisant builds significantly on their enthusiastically received 2018 debut Redshift.
Cognisant sees a massive upping-of-the-ante on the powerful riffs, dynamic rhythm section and intense vocal delivery that are developed characteristics of a band that has garnered a reputation as one of the most dynamic and energetic live acts in the Australian heavy music scene. These elements are showcased across the 10 songs of Cognisant and with the release of the single Plummet Back to Earth including an accompanying video filmed by industry leader Colin Jeffs.
All the trademark elements of the band’s sound are evident as they deliver a riff-heavy, intense 4-minute exploration of personal struggle and the concept of life and death. Engineered and produced by Clint Vincent (Dead Letter Circus, Rival Fire), the album maintains an aggressive tone and confronting presence throughout, with the layers of instrumentation and vocals immersed in the typically high-quality production Vincent is renowned for.
Early release singles Assimilate and Surrender received widespread positive receptions from fans and critics, and have hinted towards the intensity and soundscape present within Cognisant.
