Melbourne heavy metal merchants Katana Cartel are riding high on the success of their latest single “Grenade”.
After a poignant and moving tribute to Dimebag Darryl late last year called “Dime A Dozen”, Katana Cartel have followed up with this, the second song from their upcoming album Sacred Oath.
Drummer John Price caught up with HEAVY earlier this week to discuss the single and more.
“I think we wanted to use the time last year with COVID and the music industry, not only in Australia but around the world, went into a bit of hibernation period and I guess we wanted to utilise it to not put the band on a year-long hiatus,” he said, “so we thought what can we do during this period? So we basically got the album –Sacred Oath – which is going to be released later this month pretty much done and dusted.”
“We thought what clips could we do for the album and what options do we have and we thought to get our friends family and friends involved in the clip and we basically sliced it up into three or four bits and put a call to action post out on Facebook and said we are doing the clip, if you want to be involved here’s about 60 bits of the song you can do and submit yourself doing part of the song karaoke-style. We thought it would definitely be a clip of the times because it will remind people of some of the nicer parts of isolation. It was a good bit of fun to do as well and ended up producing a somewhat unique clip. Had coronavirus not been around we would have likely done a more traditional clip.”
