Winslow Wake, the multi-instrumentalist behind the experimental project I Tend the Light, releases the haunting single and accompanying video, One Need Not Be a Chamber. Drawing its title from Emily Dickinson’s 1862 poem and using EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomenon) recordings, the song is an exploration of the ghosts we carry within ourselves, showcasing Wake‘s experimental approach and distinctive sound.
Building on the momentum of previous releases, A Pitiful Applause and Now You Are Dangerous, this new offering takes the listener on a unique journey of prolonged tension and crushing, almost industrial heaviness.
“I wanted to explore how much tension I could create with that main riff,” Wake says. “How much repetition and space could I get away with? I also wanted to see if I could make a doom song using an 808. When the tension eventually breaks, it’s not in the way you might expect.”
