Holy Smoke…. It’s NUADA

Share This:

Playing at a music festival can be a pretty daunting prospect for a band… but imagine that it wasn’t only a band’s first music festival but their first live gig all up. That is exactly what is happening for Melbourne band Nuada this weekend when they take to the stage for the Holy Smoke 2018 Mini-Fest.

Nuada is what happens when you take members of Citizen and and mash them together with the vocalist from My Left Boot and then ask them to play sludgy tracks tuned down to B. So to find out more about this band that is sure to have people talking very soon HEAVY Mag caught up guitarist David Milner.

“So I was in a grunge band called Citizen and we put out an album about four years,” explains Milner when we start talking about where Nuada came from. “The album did quite well but the band instantly imploded straight afterwards when the drummer decided to quit. So this is a way was a bit of a rebound band that I decided to put together. We found this drummer, just this insanely talented kid that we met on a forum – he is incredible he could actually play in Tool, he has one of the fastest beats in the world. So we jammed together for a couple of years just trying to put this album together and then the last piece of the puzzle fell into place when we went to see a My Left Boot and we approached Chappy… and he came in. The weirdest thing about this band coming together though is that we have only been in the same room once, because Dan still lives in NSW. This show will be like the fourth or fifth time we have all played together… that is really insane.”

“Well we have been using an iPod,” he says laughing when I ask how the band manage to rehearse together. Even Facebook Messenger sometimes, but yeah Dan is coming down a few days earlier so we can get together and be really tight on the night. But yeah it has been an interesting challenge and I guess the answer is we haven’t rehearsed a whole lot but we will.”

So if you want to be amongst some of the first people to ever see Nuada play live head along to Holy Smoke 2018 at The Bendigo Hotel in Melbourne this weekend.
