How time flies when you’re getting HEAVY. We’ve rocked, thrashed, bashed and ground our way through two amazing years and it’s time to raise those horns and celebrate. HEAVY magazine is proud to reveal a line-up for our second anniversary festival that says, ‘Yeah, we know how to party!’
Greek metallers, Rotting Christ, will headline both Sydney and Melbourne’s HEAVYFEST shows in January 2014, alongside our own sonic terrorists The Amenta, Melbourne’s blackened horde Terra Australis and Sydney’s doom masters Rise of Avernus. Local supports for each show will see Bane of Isildur deliver their war chants in Sydney on the 17th, and black-death warriors Denouncement Pyre conquering Melbourne on the 18th.

ROTTING CHRIST
Formed in 1987, Rotting Christ have evolved into luminaries of the extreme metal scene and are renowned for their uncompromisingly intense live performances. With 11 albums and more than 25 years of classic material behind them, Rotting Christ’s pioneering sound comes to a pinnacle with their latest opus, Kata Ton Daimona Eaytoy, as they make their way to Australia for their first ever headlining tour.
THE AMENTA
The Amenta well and truly made their mark on Australia in 2013, delivering the stellar Flesh is Heir, touring nationally with Cradle of Filth and headlining their own shows. They are making two last live appearances for the year before they return to the grimy depths of the underground to work on another piece of aural blasphemy.
TERRA AUSTRALIS
Melbourne’s black metal warriors make their national touring debut, spewing forth their pestilential hymns and positioning themselves for total domination. Formed in 2008, Terra Australis have had a prolific career and are a must-see for fiends of all things dark and misanthropic.
RISE OF AVERNUS
Fresh from their Australian tour supporting Enslaved, Rise of Avernus have enraptured fans around the country with their impassioned blend of progressive doom. Now, in the glory of their debut full-length, L’appel Du Vide, are gearing up for another massive year and kicking it off with our two HEAVYFEST shows.
DENOUNCEMENT PYRE
Marking ten years and two albums since inception, Denouncement Pyre solidified their status in 2013 as masters of the darkness. Appearing at the Melbourne HEAVYFEST show only, Denouncement Pyre’s evil live performances play out like rituals in chaos and are not to be missed.
BANE OF ISILDUR
Bane of Isildur are taking on HEAVYFEST in Sydney with their unique brand of triumphant war metal. Formed in 2010 and inspired by the glorious tales in J.R.R. Tolkein’s masterpiece, the quartet have risen to rapid success, enjoying support slots for Amon Amarth and Denial of God and are preparing for the oncoming battles of 2014.
