HEAVY WATER Swim Against The Tide

Share This:

One great thing to come out of lockdown was the amount of different musical collaborations musicians came up with, but there’s perhaps none better than the pairing of Saxon’s Biff Byford with his son Seb to create Heavy Water.

Blending a plethora of styles and influences, Heavy Water recently release their debut album Red Brick City, a collection of songs featuring gritty, hard edged riffs topped with rich, raunchy and blues soaked vocals that combine to create an entertaining and eclectic mix of songs that pays homage to the past, present and future of this musically rich family.

Seb sat down with HEAVY earlier this week to discuss the album.

“It’s been good,” he enthused of the reception so far. “We’ve had some good reviews and a lot of people seem to like it which is always a good sign (laughs).”

With such rich pedigree, Seb stresses the importance of allowing the music to flow creatively, rather than try to steer it in any set, preconceived direction.

“When we were making it we didn’t think too much about how we wanted it to sound. We wanted it to be a mix-match of different tastes and styles from our influences. It’s got all sorts on there. We wanted it to be for everyone, whether they are Saxon fans or other music fans. We wanted it to be a different from other projects we’ve both been doing.”

In the full interview Seb talks about the album in greater detail, working with his father and how professionalism won out over sibling hierarchy, the different sounds on the album, his musical upbringing, the potential of more albums and more.
