GROOVER Review: TIGER DRIVER ‘Eternal’

Melbourne death metal outfit Tiger Driver are expecting a busy 2024.

Not only have the band released this track – Eternal – on the last day of 2023, but they have also revealed plans for a second single to be unleashed on January 27. Gotta admire their work ethic!

Crushing from the gates amid a cavalcade of bass, guitar and frenetic drumming, Eternal has a nice, up-tempo groove from the outset before a slight guitar reverb introduces the deathly growl of the vocals and things take on a more sinister feel.

The vocalist has a hell of a growl and pours venomous intent onto the open furnace, and his bandmates reply in kind.

A steady guitar-driven underbelly continues before an almighty and dense sonic breakdown elevates things even further until the vocals kick back in amid the strangely comforting swirling guitar riff.

There is a lot going on here without sounding too busy, which is half the battle. And with a running time of just over 3 minutes, the track doesn’t overstay its welcome either, instead presenting as a solid slab of death metal that is a testament to the growing international appeal of Australian artists.
