GROOVER Review: DIME STORE RIOT ‘Never Gonna Break Me’

Tulsa rock outfit Dime Store Riot are only fresh on the music scene, with this track called Never Gonna Break Me taken from their debut album which is being recorded as we speak.

Opening the track with a cool as fuck guitar riff, Dime Store Riot waste little time asserting their dominance with a cleverly placed guitar lick summoning the drums and bass who join a three-way sonic battle where music can be the only winner.

It has a steady, rhythmic groove that continues as the vocals ease in, subdued at first but with greater urgency as the song wears on.

It has a nice, catchy chorus that draws back a little before the drums blast back in with a subtle, yet firm pattern. The contrasting musical pieces are led beautifully by subtle nuances in the vocal style, until a wicked guitar solo adds spice around the 2.40 mark and carries the song into an elevated plane for the next 20 seconds or so.

It’s a relatively safe song that would suit mainstream radio while still retaining enough strands of hard rock to push the boundaries.
