With little background information to go by on Coexist, let’s just jump straight into their new single Locked Away, shall we?
After a subtle intro that gradually gains volume as it intensifies, Locked Away quickly bursts to life with frenetic double kicks that signify intent.
A nice, mellower breakdown introduces whispered vocals that gather steam and momentum before unleashing a guttural scream that quickly dominates proceedings.
As the guitars swirl and the kicks continue to blast, it seems as though we are in for an unrelenting and chaotic ride before the vocals pull back to cleans once more in a nice contrast that also seems to suggest changes in the lyrical content.
Coexist are equally adept with the harsher and cleaner vocals, maintaining a balanced status quo that never feels forced or contrived.
There is a lot of aggression in the vocals which is perfectly offset by the cleans, and a nice harmonious guitar solo midway through adds to this effect.
It is a swirling and confronting tune that resonates in all the right places and is a tasty appetizer for the band’s recently released debut EP, Chapter Of Life.
