“Thanks for having a yarn about what we’ve been trying to put on for nearly 12 months now!”

Gojira are one of the most recognisable names in metal.

Their delicate, precise and downright near impossible music and riffage is a wonder to behold and one which Australian audiences are unlikely to get the pleasure of witnessing first hand for at the very least another 12 months.

But what if we told you an Australian Gojira tribute band has been formed under the guise of From Mars To Sirius? Or that this band features some of the finest exponents of metal the music rich city of Brisbane has to offer?

After initially planning a limited number of shows last year, only to be continually thwarted by the dreaded C word, From Mars To Sirius finally get to take their efforts to the stage over the next two weeks, starting with a performance at the Woolly Mammoth on November 26, and continuing with a Gold Coast show at Mo’s Desert Clubhouse on December 3.

With an addition 12 months of practice under their belt, guitarist Chris Butler (Massic) joins HEAVY to discuss the show and what to expect.

“We’re super pumped”, he beamed. “I think anybody that’s been trying to do anything with bands anywhere in the last two years… it’s been turbulent. It’s been up and down. How many times have people thought about giving it up and throwing it away thinking jeez this is too hard? Getting prepared for gigs and making sure you’re on your A game with your brothers, only to have things cancelled and then having to regroup months later to do the same. We’ve had three swings at this, so we’ve got ourselves prepared and battle ready only to have it cancelled twice. We had a fantastic rehearsal last night with all the guys with the run through, and we’re on mate. Feeling good, really good energy. Everybody is just relieved we can finally have a crack at this monstrous challenge.”

In the full interview, Chris talks more about the show and what to expect. The main players in the band, the frustrations of not being able to get on stage, both gigs and who else is playing, PLUS we get a bit of sneaky info on Massic as well…
