Getting Under The SKINLAB

Share This:

2019 is certainly the year that marks the re-emergenace of groove metal outfit Skinlab. This is the year that will see them release their first album in a decade and for Australian fans this is the year that will see them hit our shores again – and they are bringing Pissing Razors with them.

HEAVY Mag sat down and spoke to Skinlab’s vocalist Steev Esquivel about the brand new album, the Australian tour and the new line-up which also sees Steve ‘Snake’ Green return to the band.

“We’re ecstatic, it has been awhile since we’ve been there,” says Esquivel when I ask how the band is feeling about their Australian tour. “Of course we have been there a couple of times before and our Australian fans are some of the best. The tour came about because of relations we have made through our new label, there are a few Australian bands on the label and the awareness of Skinlab on the label – it all went hand-in-hand. But yeah we are excited, we’ve had some great tours over there and we expect nothing less.”

As we start to talk about this new belief that Australian fans are crazy when it comes to heavy shows Esquivel laughs. “I find that absolutely true,” he says. “There are three elements of an Aussie fan. One – they want to drink you under the table. Two – for some weird reason they want to box with you, or maybe that is just with me but it’s like ‘you’re not so big, mate. Let’s box!’ and I’m like ‘I’m not really a boxer.’ Three – it is all true. Our first show there on the last tour we did not know what to expect and we came out to the crowd chanting Skinlab, the crowd was so insane that they basically blew up the whole stage. They knocked my bass out of my hands, they pulled the microphones off stage, kicked the PA off the stage and basically the song just stopped right there and we were like ‘fuck yeah.’ We’re punk rock we don’t care, and if that is any indication of this tour will be – then bring it on.”
