One of Canada’s best exports – the mighty The Tea Party will be returning to Australian shores very, very soon, and this time it is a tour on the back of some new music – the Black River EP which we can’t wait to get our hands on.
HEAVY Mag recently sat down with The Tea Party’s Jeff Burrows to find out a little more about the music on Black River and also to chat about the tour that will see them play some very intimate shows for their fans.
“The tour itself is celebrating the release of the single ‘Black River’ and by the time we are there celebrating the EP Black River,” Burrows explains. “It is just an extension of the tour that we are already on. It seems whenever we do a Canadian tour for whatever reason we will also do an Australian tour because we love it there so much and the fans keep asking us to come back… so why wouldn’t we? We decided to do something a little bit different this time though and play in some of the regionalised towns and stuff just to shake things up a little bit. We’re trying to make it a little easier on the folks that don’t live downtown.”
“I can’t speak for the Australian fans,” he says when I ask whether he thinks the regional fans will be a little different to their big city counterparts. “But on this Canadian/US run we’ve done four or five shows like that and the fans become a little more hyped… a little more amped because they are not having to drive into town, they can just Uber home because it is just not that kind of distance. They seem to be going off in Canada so I hope that sort of thing happens in Australia as well because at this point in our career we are just looking for new experiences, exciting experiences, and this is one of those opportunities where we can take it down to a smaller club level and sort of rock the shit out of the punters.”
