To be honest it was refreshing to hear that a new band had formed and one of the first moves they made was to give (to be) future punters a taste of the band’s work right off the bat.

No build up, no fancy promo runs just some good old-fashioned write, record and put it out into the ether….. as we know, after all it’s all about content, content, content these days!

Geelong, Victoria’s own Get Rekt did just that, once formed the quintet got to work and dropped a three-song self-titled E.P. for all to discover and enjoy.

Opener Glutton sees a steady intro/ almost military style start to the track with a building vibe from the opening 1, 2 beat/ rhythm. It quickly becomes evident that Glutton is about to unleash and with not another moment to think POW it’s game on! The highlight being the constant attack, and the vocals just keep coming at you, and it doesn’t let up! Let it be known, this is Stu (lead vocalist) official debut as a soul vocalist in a band and jeez does he pack some ferocity on this opener. Another flavour that has been added to this track is the leads during the second half of the chorus riff, Nick (lead guitarist) adds a straightforward but required layer to this section of Glutton. What a solid track to kick things off!

Another element to Get Rekt is the attention and solidarity of their rhythm section, with coordinated stops and starts to really add body and flavour to these tracks. The Mirror Speaks displays this very well. Shortly (bass, who also plays in Something Something Explosion and The Go Set respectively), Marko (drums), Brad (rhythm guitar) and Nick lock in, but the coolest part is… they have been locked in for a while and it shows! Being a band that didn’t have an established singer for a time has made for more carefully crafted writing, and it’s a joy to head band too! Ohh and the bpm to this track and the opener are set to “must move mode” when it comes to a live setting. Good luck keeping still to this band, it isn’t possible!

At 7 seconds shy of 10 minutes in length, this debut E.P. has a closing track that on first thought was going to be a slower track to round out the debut. Mannnnnn was I wrong, as Mainline beat my ears into absolute submission! To give a direct comparison or an idea of style, this track falls into is the ever so classy and talented California’s own Thrash Gods Death Angel! With its intricate time signatures and patterns, this track minces, plain and simple!!

If you’re after something fresh, something new then Get Rekt is your answer… ohh and just so you all know, Get Rekt are going to make their live debut at The Golden Vine in Bendigo, Victoria on Saturday, April 30, 2022 w/ Seas of Titan and the almighty Spacegoat!
