GANGS OF OLD LADIES Release Poems Written With DAVID ANDERSSON

Share This:

Before his tragic passing in 2022 Gangs Of Old Ladies guitarist David Andersson and vocalist/bassist Jekyll Jones spent an immeasurable amount of hours video chatting, writing poetry and lyrics together whilst they discussed life, science, satanism, philosophy and future plans for the band.

Sadly these plans will no longer come to fruition.

The loss of Andersson has led to the decision by the band to separate the poems from the coming music as David’s departure has pushed the band in a darker and more diverse direction. The poems are a part of the legacy of the last writings of Andersson before his death and the forthcoming EP features the last music Andersson wrote.

Jones states: “The new line-up was all in place before David passed and the darker, black metal style to come is magic from the passing of a dearly beloved friend”

2023 will see the band release their first EP and the last piece Andersson wrote.

Now, for the first time, the public gets the chance to share these words. Please, read on, and keep David in your hearts forever…

MEMORIAM FOR THE MAD SWEDE

“Negative Light Messiah” a nickname in jest
A connection so strong, even in the absence of flesh
Two friends laughing, discussing the mysteries of death
Science, quantum physics, dark things from our past
Unaware in these moments, that even this; it won’t last…
Your smile, your words, your quirks and strange laugh
Silence from Stockholm for our mad Swede did depart
Sad, but now stronger, we carry your dark light deep in our hearts…

Vale David Andersson
“Ut tibi musica resonare in tempore”

Brave enough to show your love, brave enough to share your darkest moments

Strong enough to create in a world so full of hate
A doctor, a healer, a magician and a musician
A true renaissance man, an enigma of the universe
I miss you beautiful friend, may your negative light shine in the absolute

CADUCEUS INVOKED

By Jekyll Jones and David Andersson

The Past:
A sad and sorry tortured soul ripe for possession
Harvested by the enemy of life, an inner demon known as depression
Hiding within the slithers of a shattered mind and heart, its whispered promises of
freedom a voice of light within the dark
Its poisoned lies become thoughts of reason that simply from this world you must
depart
One downward pointing line…
To ease the pain, to not exist, your thoughts it twists, the serpent’s hiss,
The razor’s kiss!
Inner Demons
The Doctor:
I will exorcise your inner demons; I will take away what made you an autonomous
being
Be patient; be my patient and find that existence has true meaning! Then to your
reason I will bring rhyme
One miserable hell at a time…
The New Gospel:
Science now becomes our salvation! Doctors our priests driving out damnation
Separating flesh from spiritual fiction, hospitals now churches of the one true religion
Chemistry the dogma that gives your soul its’ desired union
At the apothecary we gather to partake in the communion
One little pill at a time…

Lord I swallow thee
Give us our daily dose
Lead us not into depression
Salvation in medication

POSSESSED
By Jekyll Jones and David Andersson

The addicts lament:
This other thing inside, it thirsts and lusts with my own flesh
Chasing dragons, chasing pleasures, utter madness laced with death
This other me it shares not my mind, it cares not for my heart nor for my soul
Too late, I do realise that far too often, unaware its’ dragged me down the rabbit
hole…
I cannot run, I cannot hide, and they know not this foreign twisted thing inside
I’ve tried to exorcise this beast, many times in many ways; but I shall walk this earth
as two in one, damned for all my future days
Abstinence? Can the gateway be locked?
For this demon never truly goes away
Useless to my sadness drowning in my woe; I reject weak, meek, forgiving Christ
Real are these demons, not childish faery tales of false eternal life!
Possessed! Possessed?…Possessed?
Then sobriety’s epiphany:
Alas only in withdrawal does one truly see
We suffer as one; the pain always set in stone
These foolish decisions, reckless dark desires
Truth through shame is now set free
Bacchus and Opivs Daemonicus, we belong to thee
These demons in our veins, know we are the key
Our shame, our pain, the monkey upon our back
We make the devil’s three…

The drunk, the junkie and the ever present monkey

NEGATIVE LIGHT MESSIAH
By Jekyll Jones and David Andersson

The form of this god it carried no reflection
Energy reversed, the enemy of all creation
Deity derived of the absence of light
The dark insurrection, incarnate of night
Spearing straight on, its spiralling rhyme
So deadly in reason, equations through time
Tenebris Lumen Converte Me
Tenebris Lumen Converte Me
Kissed raw by the blackest of fire
Burnt through by the darkest of light
Staked, stilled by the spires
So deadly, behemoth yet quiet?
I long for the shadows of flesh for my shield
To shelter my being from the nothing it wields
Tenebris Lumen Converte Me
Tenebris Lumen Converte Me
Where science meets the sacred
Where science meets the hatred
Where I meet the all-maker
Devoured by the creator
Tenebris Lumen Converte Me
Tenebris Lumen Converte Me
