GANGS OF OLD LADIES Release DEATH MAGIC VOLUME ONE

Share This:

It’s been a tumultuous time for Gangs Of Old Ladies since their last release, with the tragic loss of well-known guitarist David Andersson (Soilwork/NFO) in September last year.

Adding Lunar Black (opera/extreme vocals) and Zoskia Zeraphis (choir) to the line-up before David passed helped the newly grown outfit pull together after his death and transform into a much more symphonic and extreme version of their previous selves.

Death Magic Volume One is a neatly woven package of three tracks that starts with the odd yet haunting intro Avresa Fran Stockholm. One of the last pieces of music penned by David before his death; the track is both memorial and rebirth with the song featuring the newly founded skills of main guitarist and songwriter Simon Unknowne adding perfect orchestration to the piece to provide depth and atmosphere. The intro features a Swedish goodbye spoken by David’s own sister Emma Andersson, with a video shot by David’s dear friend Morgan Schrantz, dedicated to their dear fallen friend and member David Andersson.

The band continues to grow with track two Possessed tearing into the ears with its catchy chugs, full symphonic piecing, and the new switchover between extreme and clean vocals adding a sense of epic that now seems to sit right at the core of the band’s matured sound, including an unattributed famous secret guest. Listen closely…

Last but definitely not least, Inner Demons rounds off the trio of tunes and is as lovely as a sledgehammer in corpse paint. Plus it has a spoken intro by the legendary Gary Holt of Slayer/Exodus. As per all previous releases the tracks will be on all the usual digital platforms, however, DEATH MAGIC VOLUME ONE is only available as a 3P from Bandcamp. https://gangsofoldladiesmetal.bandcamp.com/album/death-magic-volume-one
