Frank-Einstein are back with their third and last single FOR A FRIEND for the upcoming EP BROKEN HEARTS ARE FOR ASSHOLES, due to release on May 23. FOR A FRIEND deals with the anger, longing and frustration from a falling out with a friend or loved one, all through the perspective of a protagonist talking through the phone.
The song functions as the hardest of the three singles in terms of style and brings a certain anger and loudness, that really pushes through and distinguishes it from the first two singles LET ME SLEEP and DOLPHIN TRAINER, while retaining the melodic profoundness that’s come before. The instrumentation stays true to the punk rock roots, with a driving bass, bang on drums and crunchy guitars. – especially the vocals elevate this track, with its Kurt Cobain-esque snarky growl and the larger than life vocal harmonies.
