The juggernaut that is Nickelback are currently touring the world with their biggest tour to date – their Feed The Machine tour. With the announcement this week that chart-topping Canadian rock outfit will be bringing the tour Down Under HEAVY Mag decided it was time to sit down with the band and find out exactly what we can expect here in the land of Oz. So we sent Dave Griffiths to have a chat with Mike Kroeger.
“It is long overdue,” says Kroeger as he apologises for the band not touring Australia for such a long time. “That always seems to be the way, it always seems to be that we are too far between visits to Australia so we feel a little bit sheepish about it taking so long to head back, but we are really, really excited to be coming back. We have so many fond memories of Australia, and our fans in Australia have been so good to us. It has become a place that is almost a second home for us, we are getting so familiar with the place after being there so many times. We know the places that we like to go, the places we like to see and the things that we like to do… even the places we like to eat at.”
“Well we have to see about it,” teases Kroeger when I ask what the band has in store for Australian fans with their biggest production on tour to date. “We have been on tour with this biggest show that we have ever fielded. And we are talking about adding new elements to the show… something that will be something very special just for Oz. It is very much an open creative process… it is not unlike a song writing process. It is creative as well, it is very much a visual creation for the most part but we are always trying to find ways to involve the crowd and bring the crowd into the show… maybe even bring people out of the crowd and up onto the stage.”
