Fall & Resist return with Dissolved in Misery, a four-track sledgehammer of an EP that proves the Victorian crew aren’t here to f#%k about. It’s heavier, darker, and more emotionally charged than anything they’ve done before, and frankly, it’s some of their best work yet.
From the moment Living the Lie kicks in, the band make it clear they’ve sharpened every weapon in their arsenal. With the addition of guitarist Luke Murnane, frontman Liam “Frosty” Frost-Camilleri is now free to focus entirely on vocals, and he absolutely owns it. His performance is raw, guttural, and unrelenting, layered with just enough nuance to cut through the chaos. The rest of the lineup — Brendon Pyers, Rory Pyers, and Benito Martino, bring a unified, no-bullshit energy that makes each track land like a goddamn freight train.
Moments of Clarity and Cogs in the Machine strike a perfect balance between crushing heaviness and melodic hooks, building on the band’s well-earned comparisons to the likes of Dark Tranquillity and At The Gates. But this isn’t some copy paste metal act. Fall & Resist have carved out their own brutal, beautifully miserable sound.
One of the EP’s most intriguing moments comes with a collaborative track featuring Dmitry from Distorta. There’s a twist involved, and while the band’s tight-lipped about it, Frosty hints it’s the kind of move that only a handful of bands have ever dared to pull off. You will just have to listen yourself to find out.
Finishing with the devastatingly powerful The Destruction (The Resurrection), Dissolved in Misery is Fall & Resist at their sharpest, pissed off, purposeful, and pushing every damn boundary. This is Aussie metal done right. Just pure, cathartic fury.
