The Sci-Fi and Fantasy Weekender (SFW) has, up until now, been hosted yearly in North Wales. This year, SFW In The City has been added to the roster and will take place on 07th & 08th October at the O2 Academy in Sheffield – a major move for the long-running weekend of geekery. Previous events have included celebrity guests such as Brian Blessed, with, in the words of SFW, ‘panels and media guests and music and entertainment and games and books and cosplay and adventure’ galore! What else could you want?
Starting the line-up is Julian Glover, who has featured in so many pop culture classics it’s hard to keep count: The Empire Strikes Back, For Your Eyes Only, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Doctor Who…and more recently, Game of Thrones, as the bumbling Grandmaester Pycelle.
Another Who legend is set to appear, in the form of Sylvester McCoy, who played the seventh incarnation of the time-travelling hero (as well as the wizard Radagast the Brown in the Hobbit trilogy)…
…And another Game of Thrones actor will feature: James Cosmo, whose role as Lord Commander Jeor Mormont was one of the show’s great human touches. He’s no stranger to great movies, either: from Angus McCleod in Highlander, to Father Christmas in The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, to Ewan McGregor’s father in the Trainspotting films, Cosmo has left a cultural impression of kindly characters.
Other guests include Nick Kellington (In the Night Garden, Rogue One) and Stanislav Lanevski, who played Victor Krum in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
SFW will host a variety of activities to keep guests entertained, all at a ‘bargain’ entry price!
