Recorded and mixed by Joe Haley of Psycroptic, Eternal Rest’s debut album, Prophetic, is a heavy dose of extreme Australian death metal. Clearly drawing influences from bands such as Nile and Immolation, Eternal Rest offer up an album of relentless riffs and blistering blast beats. Don’t expect to find much else here though, as the band has stuck close to the preconceived blueprints of death metal. A few moments of moody middle-eastern guitar work are interesting and certainly break up the album between extended sections of furious drum beats, but unfortunately are not enough to save the album from falling in the crevice of a good album, and not a great album.
