Up-and-coming young musician Sam Bickmore has become a drumming prodigy gaining recognition from around the world for his exceptional drumming skills. At just 10 years of age, Sam passed the Trinity College London Grade 8 with distinction, only three and a half years after first picking up the sticks. His outstanding success as one of the youngest ever to reach this standard soon caught the attention of the media where Sam was featured on national and regional TV and radio.
Now 11, Sam has already caught the attention of some famous bands, receiving encouragement and messages of support from bands such as The Subways, Bowling for Soup, Rise Against, The Offspring and Avenged Sevenfold. He was invited to meet The Subways backstage at a festival in the summer, “They were all so lovely and I have spoken to Camille [Phillips] since then and she has given me some great tips on my drumming,” he said.
Sam’s real passion is to play live, stating “My dream is to be in a big rock band and I want to go on world tours and everything.”
Sam is already no stranger to the live music scene, having played at numerous live events, including his first festival in the summer of 2022. Sam is developing his own unique style which is infectious to watch. People have been very supportive and encouraging, despite not having his own band yet. There has been a snowball effect since appearing on TV, from visits to local schools and a leading cymbal manufacturer, radio and TV interviews, being showcased by local and international music festivals and growing media presence following features in numerous rock and metal magazines.
“We’re starting to get requests for Sam to play at different types of venues now and for him to work on different collaborations,” reports Sam’s mum, who says there is growing interest and demand.
