Review by Matt Bolton

If you haven’t heard of Elephant Tree you’re not alone. But, if you are willing to give them a listen (which I suggest you do) be prepared for some kick ass stoner rock from this tight new band from London.

Also check out the band’s debut, Theia, also out on Magnetic Records. You will be able to see how much the band has matured with more variations on this release. The thick dirty riff to kick things off with Wither, gets us ready for the incredible fuzz that is to take hold. The guitar solo by Jack Townley sets a doomy atmosphere, as the band are not afraid to blend aspects of prog and doom into their brand of stoner metal.

Dawn is an upbeat stoner jam song, that will get you into a certain groove that will have you anticipating the next track with excitement. The next track shows the calm after the storm with the beautiful acoustic, Circles. The vocals are a breath of fresh air. Aphotic Blues, take us back to the heavy Sabbath inspired riffs. The last minute of the song brings Kyuss to mind with the heavy blast that controls your speakers.

Another highlight for me, and they keep on coming, is the cool track, Echoes. With the groovy bassline provided by Peter Holland, the song definitely has a Queens of the Stone Age feel to it. Fracture, is a heavy hitter and Surma leaves us wanting more; with an inspiring guitar solo. Here’s to Elephant Tree and what great stoner grooves the future brings.
