ELECTRIC MARY ‘Mother’

Share This:

Back in 2008 Australia’s very own Electric Mary beat out both Metallica and Queen to win a coverted UK Rock Album Of The Year Award. Flash forward eleven years and again Electric Mary have dropped an album that you feel is going to be in the running for that same award again. When you take a listen to their new album Mother you begin to realise that you are not just listening to a ‘good’ album… you are listening to a great album. It is eight tracks of pure rock bliss that show why artists such as Whitesnake, Judas Priest, Deep Purple, KISS, Alice Cooper, Def Leppard and Motorhead have all asked these guys to open for them over the years..

This album of greatness opens with the brash and catchy ‘Gimme Love’ that simply reminds of how hard rock should sound. Then comes the very 80s sounding ‘Hold Onto What You Got’ which is going to be a track that is going to be lapped up by Electric Mary fans at live gigs quicker than anything you have ever seen before.

‘How Do You Do It’ sees the album slow down a little while the guitar throughout delivers a beautiful bluesy sound that has you only wishing that you could play like that. Then there is the heartfelt, drawn out ‘Sorry Baby’ which shows the brilliant lyric-writing abilities of Rusty while the catchiness of the album returns with ‘The Way You Make Me Feel’ which will have you singing along to it in no time.

The meandering through sound that Mother delivers continues with the big guitar riffs and solos of ‘It’s Alright’ which shows that Electric Mary can produce a banger of an anthem with the best of them while my highlight of the album just had to be ‘Long Long Day.’ The intro on this track is something very, very special and you get the feeling that it could go down in history as one of the finest and intros of all time. Then just to close things out Electric Mary produce another sugar-coated hint of hard rock catchiness with ‘Woman.’

Think of the finest albums that bands like Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple or Pink Floyd delivered over the years and you could easily place Mother amongst them. There is no other way you can describe this album then ‘pure rock brilliance.’
