Sydney ethno-prog band BaK have today announced that their new EP Painter will be released on Friday May 10. The band have dropped a video for the track “Us All”, the first single to be released off Painter.

BaK are an intricate fusion of progressive rock with strong ethnic themes – ‘ethno-prog’. Like Tool doing a tribute to Disney’s Aladdin! BaK however boldly lay the Middle Eastern theme to their music on very thick. A lot of the music is predominantly traditional Middle Eastern with haunting, eerie vocals which then transform into high pitched metal shrieking backed by a tight knit rock section. It’s unique, interesting, and hypnotic, not to mention exceptionally delivered. The composition and musicianship of this band are on an entirely different level

Painter was produced byBaK and ARIA award winning producer Kalju Tonuma (Temper TrapThe Living End). Painter was recorded at Sing Sing Studios (KarnivoolDead Letter CircusKimbra) and mixed at Red Door Sounds (Vance Joy, Dune Rats).

Painter continues where previous EP Flower left off. It contains four tracks that meld prog rock and metal with Middle Eastern instrumentation, resulting in a very unique and original sound.Painter showcases the amazing musicianship of BaK including the mastery of a vast array of instruments such as the Tombak, Doumbek, Daff, Riqs, Oud, Tszouras and the Turkish Baglama. All this combined with a wide range of vocals styles, from the eerie to the sublime high pitched metal shrieking, to Indian vocals and Tabla Bols (vocalised Tabla rhythms) all performed and delivered with conviction, with the end result being BaK’s finest work to date.

First single “Us All” shows the band’s artistic evolution and avant-garde sensibilities while still capturing their classic, unique sound they are renowned for.
